About Alex M Zappier

Alex M Zappier was always creative as a child and loved constantly drawing and doodling in notebooks and sketchbooks. Her career in art, however, did not fully blossom until her sophomore year in college. Putting art on the backburner in order to focus on academics,  she went to Susquehanna University, with hopes of eventually getting into law school.  Like many college students on a tight budget, Alex found herself turning to handmade gifts for birthdays and other special events. She decided the best she could do to make a special and meaningful gift was to draw one. That is when she created her first full size portrait.  Eventually, after creating a few more drawings and gifts, the detail and realistic look of each drawing began to attract attention.  During the second semester of her sophomore year at Susquehanna, the Fine Arts professor, who was an artist herself, approached Alex about taking Art as a major or at least a minor due to her undeniable talent.  Alex chose to heed this advice and she took Art as her minor which quickly became her second major as Alex found that she really enjoyed and excelled in this field.

Alex continued to do pro-bono work for practice and for fun until one day in conversation Alex happened to mention her passion for drawing to whom would become her first portrait client thus starting her career as a commission artist.  At this time, she was still working in black and white but she began to think of more ways to challenge herself in exploring new aspects of her medium while appealing to people and their needs and wants of pictures and portraits.  That's when she decided to try something new for her senior capstone which was also going to be her first gallery show. She planned to do her entire portion of the show in color pencil. Alex powered through this challenge with amazing results. While preparing the final 3 out of 5 drawings for her capstone, she entered first two completed color drawings into her first contest and won "best in show". She was then offered an internship and the opportunity to have her first solo Gallery show where she won the contest.

After graduating from Susquehanna, her client base for portraits began to grow.  It became standard for her to have two to three clients lined up for portraits, custom art,  or tattoo designs at one time.  Alex also entered her second contest in April 2015 at the Bronxville women's club and won second place in her category. Now she is preparing for her second solo Gallery showing at the Bronxville Women's club in Bronxville, NY.

Doodling and drawing without intent or purpose could be fun, but it is the message and feeling that the art is intended to convey that drives Alex to complete each drawing with such passion, thoroughness, and attention to detail.  She wants her art to reach out of the frame and touch people's heartstrings. Equally, she wants people to look at her art and feel as if they could jump right in and be a part of it. That is why she focuses on the little details. Those details are what make a drawing look and feel so real.  One of the best experiences for Alex as an artist is seeing the look on a client's face when he or she looks at one of her drawings for the first time and they see something that has a deep meaning for them portrayed just as they imagined it would be or better. It's an experience she tries to relive when she presents every drawing that she does.

Despite Alex's love for art and drawing,  she never imagined she would get this far and she hopes to continue down this path of creative success.
